Milkshakes | Peggy Sue's vs. The Counter

5:01 PM

On the same day as the Spicy Chicken Sandwich fight, we had a sweet tooth. We decided to do a twofer and order some milkshakes to fight off as well. We had Peggy Sue's, a downtown San Jose classic,  battle it out against The Counter, a build-your-own burger joint. Peggy Sue's are on the left with whipped cream and a cherry and The Counter's are on the right. From top to bottom flavors are vanilla, peanut butter, and chocolate.

We compared the flavors side by side, totaled the tallies to find the ultimate winner.

Vanilla: The Counter won 4 to 2. Majority felt that the vanilla flavor from Peggy Sue's was too sweet and artificial. The counter was much more like a vanilla ice cream base, which we appreciated.

Peanut Butter: This one was tied 3-3. Peanut butter flavor from The Counter was more subtle and creamy, which the non-peanut-butter-lovers enjoyed. The flavor at Peggy Sue's was much more "in your face". We guess peanut butter is just one of those things that depends on how much you like it.

Chocolate: For this one, The Counter won again, 5 to 1. Peggy Sue's was again much to artificial and sweet. We felt that The Counter, which blended chocolate syrup into their vanilla base, was much more successful. It was chocolatey enough, but not so much so that you felt like you were just chugging syrup.

Over all, The Counter won 12-6. Peggy Sue's put up a good fight, but the classic style and flavor from The Counter won us over.

Bon Appetit,
FFF

Federico Fellini once said, "Life is a combination of magic and pasta."

We think he was pretty spot-on with that one.
